DR POON ZHIMIN

Resident Family Physician

Dr Poon is a senior Family Physician with more than 10 years of experience in primary care. She graduated from National University of Singapore in 2010 and was in the pioneer batch of Family Medicine Residency Training Program when it first started that year. Through the training program, Dr Poon underwent rigorous training in various specialties in hospitals where she acquired valuable experience and skills which allowed her to be a proficient Family Physician today. Some of the specialty departments which she underwent training include Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and ENT.  

 

Driven by her strong passion in Family Medicine, she was awarded the Singhealth Best Resident and Outstanding Resident Representative in 2012. 

 

After completion of her Residency Training, Dr Poon continued to serve in Singhealth Polyclinic where she furthered her training in Family Medicine and was accorded the Fellowship of College of Family Physician. She continued serving as an Associate Consultant in the Polyclinic, taking care of patients with complex medical conditions in special clinics in the Polyclinic.

 

Being a mother of two, she empathizes closely with working mothers with young children. She understands the health issues and concerns that they face. As such, she took on the role of the deputy chairperson of the Child Health workgroup in SingHealth Polyclinics and at the same time was actively involved in research to improve on healthcare delivery for postpartum women. 

 

At the same time, Dr Poon is also a firm believer of medical education and training for junior doctors. She is a Clinical tutor for the Graduate Diploma of Family Medicine, a clinical lecturer with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, a clinical instructor with Duke-NUS Medical School as well as a teaching faculty with SingHealth Family Medicine Residency programme. 

 

She also has a special interest in Dermatology in which she completed her training with National Skin Centre to attain the Graduate Diploma in Family Practice Dermatology in 2017. 

 

Aside from her passion in Family Medicine, she is also an avid plant lover. She enjoys spending her free time doing gardening and she also loves to spend quality time with her two young kids and family.
